The Next Era of Banking:

The business of banking has been relatively static since the time of Medici: take in deposits at one rate, lend at a higher rate, facilitate payments, manage risk. First “digital transformation” and then “fintech” were going disrupt the incumbents. Banks continue to exist, and even thrive, despite cries from influencers and pundits that say the end is nye.

The existential threat to the industry brought on by change is more subtle and pervasive than a frontal assault of mobile apps and neobanks. Technology’s impact is more like the erosion of water on a landscape over time than a crashing wave.

The very nature of banking is changing even if the first principles might remain the same.
